The driveway alert system comes in two forms—wired and wireless. The wired alert system has the advantage of being sophisticated and safe as it is more difficult for burglars to deactivate. A wired alarm system can be installed with the help of an expert technician especially when the building is in the process of construction. The disadvantage is that the wiring could make the whole system expensive.
A wireless driveway alert system is preferred these days because it is easy to install and does not require the help of a technician, making it more cost effective. Moreover, the wireless system is more efficient, portable and ideal for older houses and offices as it will save them from the trouble of breaking the walls and to fix the wires inside. This type of driveway alert system is suitable for families with pets and kids as there will be no wires over which the kids and pets will trip.
The driveway alarm is comprised of three major components; the sensor, commonly known as a transmitter, the control pad and an alarm or the alert receiver. All the three components are interconnected and work in harmony.
A driveway sensor senses the presence of any physical moving object around it be it a human being, a car, a solid metal object or an animal. It emits the microwaves, ultrasonic or infrared waves all the time it is turned on. These waves are emitted in all the directions within the range of the detector. The point where the rays are blocked– indicates that a foreign moving object has entered into the driveway area. The control pad acts as the intermediary between the transmitter and the receiver. The signal reaches the receiving device which is in the form of an alarm, a flashing red light or an automated voice message.
The receiving device is installed inside the home or the office building where all the dwellers can easily notice the signal. Some house owners have an intercom or cordless phone where they receive the message that a stranger has entered the driveway. Technology has become so advanced that owners can also receive the driveway alert message on their pagers and mobile screens. In case the home or office owner is out of town, the message of the receiving device can be diverted to the neighbor’s telephone so that he takes action against the intrusion.
It should be ensured that the sensors are of good quality and do not generate fake signals. The quality of receiving device like the alarm needs to be equally good so that it could make the alert in time to take action on the signal.
