PIR motion detector has become immensely popular in recent years. Before digging deeper into this phenomenon, it will be pertinent to define what PIR is. PIR is basically the abbreviation of Passive Infrared and these alarms and detectors work on a simple principle. They detect the heat generated by living organism and other objects within their range of working and raise alarms if they suspect any irregularity. Infrared rays depend on heat signals and fluctuating temperatures and are an excellent source of providing security.
A PIR motion detector is added to a variety of alarms and motion detectors. It is not a very expansive or complex device. Some come in as small shapes as a tiny chip while others are relatively larger. It is basically a sensor like thermometer that combs the area under its range and raise alarms in case of any questionable movements. The working is as simple as that.

The circuit is as simple as an ordinary one with infrared sensors placed at strategic locations with either wired or wireless circuitry. The alarm will sound off when the circuit is broken or when the sensors detect any motion. These alarms run on batteries with some having an AC interface so you can connect them to your regular switches and cables.
PIR motion detectors come in the shape of a watch, a switch and a basic circuit. Most common shapes remain similar to that of a table watch with a red light at either the top or bottom of the alarm that will blink during the sounding of the alarm. A light to show the level of charge left in the alarm is also sometimes added to the main device.
The popularity of these alarms has prompted manufacturers to develop wireless PIR motion detector. This device works much better than its wired counterparts because there are no cables or wires to disconnect or malfunction. It offers 180-degree detection arc that analyzes everything moving within that parameter and sounds off alarm when it detects any abnormal motion. It relays wireless signals so nothing can stop them by cutting off wires and breaking circuits.
PIR motion sensor has also been integrated into security alarms and devices that use other technologies. It is now widely used in multifunction alarms and motion detectors that use contact points and other devices. It works in combination with these systems to boost up the security of a place. This results in an improve security because there is another line of defense if the first system breaks down. The second system works well and raises alarms to alert the homeowners of an intruder.
