Outdoor motion sensors can be installed on gates, doors or windows. The advantage of installing outdoor motion sensors is that households can be alerted if there is an intruder on their premises. An outdoor motion sensor emits an electromagnetic beam in the area it is monitoring. In case someone enters the area, the beam strikes against the body and is reflected back to the motion sensor. A motion sensor light switch is connected to the motion detector. When an object steps into the motion detector monitored area, it sends a signal to the light switch, which triggers the lights on. In addition to switching on lights, the outdoor light motion sensor can also be programmed to inform the police of any break in attempts.
When installing an outdoor motion sensor light, you need to be careful when adjusting the sensitivity of the outdoor lighting motion sensor. You should not set it to be oversensitive to the extent that when a cat passes through your backyard, the lights switch on and the police are informed. Also, you do not want it to be under sensitive to a level that a burglar can simply walk up to your house and break in without you or the police knowing.
Furthermore, you need to keep in mind the neighborhood when installing outdoor motion sensor lights. In case the houses in your neighborhood are close to each other, installing a high intensity outdoor motion sensor light would certainly disturb your neighbors on and often. In this case, LED lights would serve the purpose just fine. In case you live in mansion with a wide area, LED lights will not serve the purpose as they will not illuminate the entire area being monitored. For such areas, outdoor motion sensor lights need to be of high intensity, as to light up the area for the user to see.
